The Life of Pilates - Fitness Routines and a Little History About Them
A lot of people in the world do exercise to keep them fit. These exercises can be done through a lot of ways. There are a lot of reasons as to why people do exercise. Some do it as a pass time, some to reduce weight, to maintain their stamina in the body, to maintain flexibility and so many other reasons. Exercises can be of many types. A lot of them play games; some go to the gym to build their body. However, nowadays a large population of the working class prefers to work out inside their home. As a result, a lot of exercise products and packages have come out to the market to make these exercises easy and non-tiring. One of these many companies all over the world today which has introduced exercise products and packages is Winsor Pilates.
These days I spend a lot of time working out just looking at the programs that come on my Dish TV. One of the exercise products I liked was the Winsor Pilates. Winsor Pilates has become very popular because it promises to keep the body strong in the form of lean long muscles. When you go through this routine, it keeps all the muscles in your body fit. An interesting fact about this is that even the muscles in your feet get stronger and tight. The equipment is made in such a way that it helps you get a better fitness routine. The equipment are used mainly for stretching, finding a balance in your body which will help you strengthen your body muscles and increase your flexibility and balance. Some the equipment brought out by the Pilates are Ladder Barrel, Arc Barrel, Spine Corrector, Pilates Ball, Pilates Chairs and Pilates Reformer.
The Ladder Barrel consists of a short ladder having somewhere between four and seven rungs attached to a contraption that most closely resembles a barrel turned on its side and raised. The rungs of the ladder can be adjusted depending on the intensity of the workout or to accommodate different sized participator. The barrel is used hold your spine in position and as you reach out to the rungs, it helps you increase your flexibility.
The Arc Barrel contains only the barrel without the ladder. It is for people who cannot maintain a sturdy position on the ladder. This helps you to exercise your neck, lips, back and shoulders. These barrels are available in many shapes and sizes to fit different-sized bodies. The Arc Barrel is generally lightweight and made of upholstery material and hence very convenient to use.
Having known a little about the products, now let’s get to know a little history about the Pilates. The Pilates lived in Germany way back in the 1880s. Their history began with the birth of Joseph H. Pilates who was the creator of the Pilates exercise. Joseph’s father had won a lot of prizes for being a gymnast. His mother was a neuropath. Joseph studied both western and eastern yoga. His passion for doing exercises grew bigger and as a result he modeled a lot of fitness charts for doing exercises.
During World War I, Pilates, who was a German by birth, moved to Great Britain. He immigrated to work as a defense instructor at Scotland Yard and taught the self defense techniques to the detectives in the Scotland Yard. When the war broke out, he became an ‘enemy alien’ and in due course of time, he refined his principles of his new body conditioning routine. After the war, Joe returned to Germany and began training the Hamburg Military Police in self-defense and physical training as well as taking on personal clients.
After his return to Germany, his methods became popular among professional dancers, including Rudolf von Laban and Hanya Holm. His techniques turned out to be so famous that even the German government sought for his expertise. In 1926, the Pilates declined and moved to the United States. The Pilates eventually opened a fitness studio in the same building as the New York City Ballet. Professional New York dancers took up Pilates' methods with great zeal. The Pilates began to take ballet classes in the 1960s. Pilates died in the year 1967. His wife Clara continued with the classes.
