I am enjoying this new mat. I have tried putting it in the sun to make it stickier, but maybe I have not done it enough times. She told me that she had the worst experience with this yoga mat. She couldn't hold her positions because she was slipping and sliding all over the place.
With the Manduka, there was an immediate difference. It never bunches up and gets stickier with use.
I find my old mats to be a bit spongy and soft now. But, again, everyone has their own preferences.
It made my entire bedroom smell like rubber for several days. After the smell subsided and I began to use the mat, I realized quickly how important it was to have a sticky mat. The mat feels like a concrete foundation, as it supports you in any pose you can throw at it. Not to mention it looks and feels like it will live forever. This one is sticky and longer and wider than most mats. It is heavy, but well worth it in poses as the thickness is greatly appreciated! I suppose some folks may find it too heavy but it is still less than ten pounds and have no problem with that. There is the perfect amount of grip and the stability is excellent. This mat is also two inches wider than the average mat, 24" is the standard width, and three inches longer than average -- 68" is the standard length. There are two sides to this and nearly all Yoga Mats. My new mat has light grey streaks on it. This is a thick, heavy mat similar to industrial floor matting.
I put my knees into it all the time and it feels just fine. The mat is rolled out over vinyl flooring, so the mat is all the cushion I have.
I am not willing to expose myself to toxin inhalation for an hour a day. We have enough harmful materials everywhere to do this electively. In the meantime, I am practicing on another mat because I could no longer take compromising my practice. When I use the mat, I actually lay a strap on the top of the mat so I have something to grip and ground down into. One important thing to note is: if you have sweaty hands you may have some slippage problems. I solved this by using a towel for my hands.
Highly recommend this mat for everyone! Pay the high price, it's so worth it!
